Kentucky Bowhunting Safety and Bowhunter Education Course

The Today's Bowhunter course is the official online bowhunter education course of the National Bowhunter Education Foundation and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

Kentucky accepts an independent study method that involves a two-part process:

1. This online course, completed on your own time and your own schedule, followed by,
2. A one-day Field Day or Bowhunter Education Add On instruction and skills class led by certified bowhunter education instructors.

Effective March 1, 1991, all hunters born on or after January 1, 1975, shall, while hunting, carry a valid hunter education course completion card in addition to the appropriate Kentucky hunting license. A bowhunter not in possession of a firearm may carry a "National Bowhunter Education Program" course completion card in lieu of the hunter education card.

Online Bowhunter Education Home Study Steps

• Study material in each chapter and complete the chapter review questions.
• Take the free Practice Test as many times as you like.
• Take the Bowhunter Education Qualifying Examination for $20.00.
• Upon passing the Bowhunter Education Qualifying Examination, print out your Kentucky Field Day Qualification Certificate which is accepted by the state as proof of home study.
• Attend a Field Day or Bowhunter Education Add On. Read about the Field Day or Bowhunter Education Add On requirements online. Online students must have their Kentucky Field Day Qualification Certificate PRIOR to scheduling a Field Day or Add On class.
• Students must successfully complete the Field Day or Bowhunter Education Add On and final examination within 365 days of passing this online course to receive a course completion certificate from the State.

A Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Bowhunter Add On is a 4 hour "add on" course that will meet the requirement for completing your Bowhunter Education course.  Please remember to bring your Field Day Qualification Certificate as proof of completing the online course.
