Minnesota Bowhunting Safety and Bowhunter Education Course

The Today's Bowhunter course is the official online bowhunter education course of the National Bowhunter Education Foundation and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

  1. This online course, completed on your own time and your own schedule, followed by,
  2. A one-day Field Day instruction and skills class led by certified bowhunter education instructors.

Check on Field Day availability before starting the course to be sure there is a Field Day with a convenient time and location for you.

Online Bowhunter Education Home Study Steps

  • Minnesota state law states that youth ages 12 and older are eligible for certification. Youth ages 12-15 must first complete and pass a Firearm Safety Training Class.
  • Study the material in each chapter and complete the chapter review questions.
  • Take the free Practice Test as many times as you like.
  • Take the Field Day Qualifier Exam for $20.00.
  • Upon passing the Field Day Qualifier Exam, print out your official NBEF Field Day Voucher which is accepted by the state as proof of home study.
  • Attend a Field Day.
    To register for a Field Day, visit the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources bowhunter education web page or call the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources at 1-888-MINNDNR or 651-296-6157.
  • Field Days can fill quickly and completion of this online course does not guarantee you a spot at a Field Day. Students must have their Minnesota Field Day Voucher before scheduling a field day.
