Montana Bowhunter Education Course

2008 Field Days: One-day field days for this online bowhunter education program will be held on Saturdays in July. Before you complete this program, please make sure one of these locations will work for you. Field Day detail is shown below.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks logoMontana offers online bow hunting education for anyone 18 years and older. The Today’s Bowhunter is the official online bowhunter education course of Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and the National Bowhunter Education Foundation. Montana honors proof of completion of the NBEF online bowhunter education course issued by another state or province.

Begin your bowhunter education certification by studying at home on your computer. Upon successful completion of the online course (which is confirmed by taking an exam online) you will be issued a Field Day Qualifier Certificate. This Field Day Qualifier Certificate is necessary to obtain entrance into the final portion of your bowhunter education course, which takes place with certified Montana instructors in the field. After completing the field day portion, you will then receive your official proof of course completion.

As part of the field day, you are required to complete the official Montana bowhunter exam. Aside from completing the online program, we encourage you to review pages 18 and 19 of the Montana Hunting Regulations booklet (reviewing the General Regulations and Information PDF found under the heading “Deer and Elk”) to become familiar with the specific requirements for hunting with archery equipment in Montana.

About This Online Bowhunter Education Course

  • The online course is available to anyone 18 years old and older. Anyone 17 years and younger is required to take the conventional classroom-based course of instruction.
  • Field day options are limited and we encourage you to register for a field day before completing the online program. This is the only way to ensure that you can become certified in time. You will not be able to simply show up at a field day and expect to participate; you must register ahead of time.
  • You must complete a field day within 365 days from the time you successfully complete the online portion.
  • In Montana all field days have to be completed by July 31 of each year.
  • For more information about this program, contact Lorraine Karwaski at FWP (406) 444-3188 or lkarwaski@mt.gov.
