Nebraska Bowhunting Safety and Bowhunter Education Course
The Today's Bowhunter course on bowhunting safety
is the official online bowhunter education course of
the Nebraska
Game and Parks Commission.
Nebraska law requires that
archery (bow and arrow) hunters ages 12 through 29 complete an
approved bowhunter education course and carry proof of course
completion while bowhunting deer, antelope, elk and/or mountain sheep.
Nebraska will generally honor a bowhunter education course certificate from another state. However, those states and provinces that include bowhunting as a part of their Hunter Education Course will NOT meet the requirements for bowhunting in Nebraska. Nebraska will only honor a separate bowhunter education course. The proof of course completion must clearly indicate the student completed a BOWHUNTER EDUCATION COURSE, not a hunter education course.Visit the NBEF website for more information about bowhunter education courses.
About This Bowhunter Safety Course
Nebraska accepts an independent study method that involves
a two-part process—this online course,
completed on your own time and your own schedule, followed
by Field Day instruction and testing led by certified bowhunter
education volunteer instructors.
Begin your bowhunter education
certification by studying at home
on
your computer.
Upon
successful completion
of the
online bowhunter education course (which is confirmed by
taking an exam online) you will be issued a Field Day Qualifier
Certificate. This Field Day Qualifier Certificate is necessary
to obtain entrance into the final portion of your bowhunter
education course, which takes place with a certified instructor
in the field. After completing the Field
Day portion, you
will
then receive your official proof of course completion.
- Students must be 11 years of age or older to be tested
and certified with this online course. However,
the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission does not recommend
this form of training for students under 14 years
of age.
Students under age 14 have an extremely high failure rate
and are better
served
by attending a class
where they receive instruction from certified instructors.
- Completion of the online requirement is only a portion of
the required curriculum. You must attend a Field
Day and
complete any remaining course requirements at that time.
You will have 365 days from the time you successfully complete
the online portion to enroll and complete the Field
Day portion of the curriculum.
- At the present time, Field Day options are limited, so
please ensure that a Field Day is offered in your area
before taking the online exam. For information
about Field Day options, visit the
Nebraska Game and Parks Bowhunter Education Instructor web
page.
