New York Bowhunter Field Day Information

In order to complete the bowhunter education requirements for New York, you must pass both the Bowhunter Ed Safety Course online and the New York Department of Environmental Conservation Bowhunter Field Day. A 7-hour Field Day includes: instruction on ethics, equipment, laws and violations, tree stand safety, shot placement, and blood trailing and game care; a live-fire bow range (for every student); and an exam.

Follow the steps below to complete the certification process.

  1. Pre-register for a Field Day…

Go to the New York DEC Sportsman Education Classes page to search for a Field Day in your area; field days are any classes identified as a "Homestudy Course!"

You must pre-register for the Field Day before beginning the online course. Field Days can fill quickly, and completion of this online course does not guarantee you a spot at a Field Day.

  2. Complete the Online Course…

Register for the online course, complete the online course, and print out your Field Day Qualifier Certificate.

  3. Attend the Field Day

Bring your Field Day Qualifier Certificate to the Field Day. After demonstrating proficiency in bow and arrow safety and hunting skills at the Field Day, you'll receive your New York Bowhunter Education Certificate.
