Proof of Bowhunter Education Requirement
Your bowhunter education card will allow you to purchase a bowhunting license, but you must also carry proof of your certification with you in the field. If you bowhunt without having proof of bowhunter education on your person, you can be cited as if you’re bowhunting without bowhunter education entirely. There are two ways to show proof of bowhunter education in the field: You can be verified in Colorado’s licensing system, or you can carry your physical card with you. The latter is very self-explanatory. If a wildlife officer stops to check your license, they will also ask for proof of bowhunter education. Simply showing them your bowhunter education card is all that is required to meet this regulation.
The verification process is slightly different. To get verified in the system, you have to bring your bowhunter education card to a CPW office or state park or call them at 303-297-1192. The verification process links up your bowhunter education record with your Colorado customer ID (or CID). Once you’re verified, your proof of bowhunter education will print directly onto your license, making your license your proof of bowhunter education in the field. If you are verified, you do not need to carry a physical bowhunter education card on your person when bowhunting.
