Locating and Signing Up for the field day

After passing the online portion of the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Bowhunter education course, you will need to locate and sign up for the required field day.

Locate and sign up for the field day in your area.

Please note:

  • You must register for the field day online; phone registrations are not accepted.
  • The field day must be completed by July 31 each year. Bowhunter Education Field Courses are NOT offered in Montana from August 1 to December 31 of each year.
  • Bring your Montana Bowhunter Education Certificate to the field day as proof of having completed the online course.

Warning! Passing the online course does not guarantee you a spot at the field day.

What To Expect at the field day

The field day is 4–6 hours, depending on the amount of students attending.

Under the supervision of a certified instructor, the field day will include:

  • a classroom session
  • demonstrations of bow and arrow safety
  • demonstrations of hunting skills
  • practical testing

Most of the classroom topics will pertain to Montana-specific regulations and issues that are not covered in this online course. Be sure to have proper clothing for the outdoor sessions.

After attending and passing the field day portion of the Bowhunter education requirement, you will receive your Montana Bowhunter Education Certificate.
