After passing the online portion of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife Bowhunter education course, you will need to locate and sign up for the required Bowhunter Skills and Exam Day.

Warning! Passing the online course does not guarantee you a spot at the Bowhunter Skills and Exam Day.

What to Expect at the Bowhunter Skills and Exam Day

This is 6–7 hours, depending on the number of students attending and will include:

  • a classroom session
  • blood trailing
  • distance judging
  • demonstrations of tree stand safety
  • survival skills

Most of the classroom topics will pertain to Maine-specific regulations and issues that are not covered in this online course. Be sure to have proper clothing for the outdoor sessions. Dress for the weather.

After attending and passing the Bowhunter Skills and Exam Day portion of the Bowhunter education requirement, you will receive your Bowhunter Education Certificate.

REMEMBER! The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife requires that you read Beyond Fair Chase, a book by Jim Posewitz and that you bring your Survival Kit to the Bowhunter Skills and Exam Day.
