Bowhunting is an important aspect of life for many Americans. A 2016 survey funded by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service discovered the following facts.

  • More than 11 million Americans hunt—that represents about 4.5% of the total population.
  • Thirty-two percent of the 11 million people hunt with a bow.
  • Bowhunting continues to grow while overall hunting numbers are declining.
Why Do You Bowhunt?
The most recent Archery Trade Association 2019 survey respondents mention:
38% More challenging; requires more skill
14% Quieter than using firearms
6% Dislike for guns and the use of them
6% Feel safer
6% Requires you to get closer to the prey
Archery Trade Association 2019 survey shows average age of bowhunter:
55% Over 56 years of age
25% Between 36 and 55 years of age
20% 35 years of age and younger

Note: Active bowhunters hunt an average of 17 days per year.
